Rapp Center for Education

The class will delve into the lore regarding morel mushrooms and their elusive nature. Attendees will learn to identify the several subspecies of morels that exist in Rappahannock (including ‘false’ morels). We will also cover areas such as the best places to look to find this yearly delicacy, how to prepare/cook them, and some of the culture associated with the genus Morchella.

Instructor bio

John Hallberg is finishing renovation of Estes Mill with the opening of the Appalachian Dulcimer Museum this fall. He has hunted morel mushrooms in Rappahannock every spring since the mid 1990s.
